1. Where can I file an accident report?

Contact 9-1-1 for an officer to be dispatched to the scene of the accident. If no injuries are involved you may come in person to the Grayslake Police Department located at:

A valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and registration (other driver information may be required) is necessary for the officer to complete an accident report.

2. How do I obtain a copy of an accident report?

Visit the Village's Online Accident Report System to access traffic accident reports via the internet. There is a fee for obtaining accident reports online.

3. How do I pay my parking/local ordinance ticket?

You have three payment options:

2. Pay by check or money order (DO NOT SEND CASH!) be sure to include the citation number or copy of ticket with payment. This can be done in person at the police counter, drop off in the Village hall drop box or by US Mail to:

6. How do I get my car released?

Vehicle releases are done on a case by case basis. Please call the non-emergency number (847) 223-2341 for the required release information. Release forms are obtained in person at the Grayslake Police Department. The owner must be present for the release of his/her vehicle, with a valid driver's license to drive the vehicle away.

7. Can I obtain a handicap parking tag at the Grayslake Police Department?

No. The Police Department does have the state required forms, which need to be completed by the applicant & attending physician. Once completed the forms need to be mailed to the Secretary of State.

8. Do I need a vehicle sticker if I live in Grayslake?

The Village of Grayslake does not require residents to have a vehicle sticker.

9. How can I get a background check?

Background checks are only provided for the residents of Grayslake and only for events which have occurred in Grayslake. You may not obtain a background check on anyone other than yourself.

Unincorporated Grayslake - contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office at (847) 549-5200.

If a national background check is required, the resident must contact the Lake County Sheriff's Office at (847) 549-5200.

Proper identification is required: a valid DL, State Photo ID or passport. The Grayslake Police Department provides a form to be filled out by the applicant. Once the background check has been completed a notarized form is returned to the resident. There is no charge for this service.

10. I need to have my fingerprints taken. Can the Police Department do this for me?

Yes. You must be a resident of Grayslake or being fingerprinted for a business in Grayslake. A fingerprint card is required. The fingerprint card needs to be provided by the employer requesting the fingerprinting. The Grayslake Police Department does not provide fingerprint cards. This is a no charge service.

11. How do I sign-up for a house watch / business watch?

You must come in person to the Grayslake Police Department and complete the form. This service is limited to 2 week periods. If more time is necessary special permission must be granted by the Commander of the Police Department.

12. What is the Curfew Law in Grayslake?

Village Code prohibits any person under the age of 17 to be out in public, unless accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible companion at least 18 years of age who is approved by a parent or legal guardian. The curfew does not apply to a person under the age of 17 when engaged in a business or occupation that the state of Illinois authorizes a person under the age of 17 to perform. It is unlawful for any person under the age of 17 to be present at or upon any public assembly, building, place, street, or highway at the following times:

1. Between 12:01 a.m. and six a.m. Saturday;

2. Between 12:01 a.m. and six a.m. Sunday; and

3. Between eleven p.m. on Sunday to Thursday, inclusive, and six a.m. on the following day.
