Public Works Department

Responsibilities

In cooperation with Village contractors and the Village engineers, the Public Works Department is responsible for:

• Maintaining and operating the 4.6 million gallon Water Reservoir and Pump   Station
• Maintaining and operating more than 94 miles of water mains
• Maintaining one back-up supply water-well
• Operating two elevated water towers storing 1,000,000 gallons of water
• Reading and maintaining the water meter system
• Maintaining and operating more than 68 miles of sanitary sewers
• Maintaining approximately 79.5 miles of storm sewers and three detention      basins
• Maintaining and snow plowing 150 lane-miles of streets and 13 parking lots
• Maintaining over 710 street lights
• Mowing 56 acres of public way 14 times per year (714 acres mowed               annually)
• Sweeping 1,075 curb-miles of streets annually
• Responding to over 1,400 citizen requests for service annually
