Class Description

Swim School, developed exclusively for the Grayslake Aquatic Center, is a unique learn to swim program focusing on skill introduction, development, and mastery. Nine progressive levels of instruction teach children of all ages and abilities fundamental water skills and beginning and advanced swimming strokes.

Class Details

• Age: 5-12
• Classes: 10 classes per session*
• Length: Sessions 1-4: 30 minutes                                                                                                                                                          Sessions 7 & 10: 35 minutes (8 classes)

*Day one of each Swim School session is a designated testing day. All students are tested the first day of each session to accurately assess a student’s swimming ability to ensure placement in the appropriate level.

Swim School Curriculum:

Beginner:

Beginner swim school is an introduction of fundamental water skills

1. Tadpole: assisted front and back floats

2. Guppy: unassisted front and back floats

3. Minnow: coordinated kicks and arm movements

Intermediate:

Intermediate swim school is an introduction of basic swimming strokes

1. Sea Horse: front crawl

2. Orca: back crawl

3. Marlin: elementary backstroke

Advanced:

Advanced swim school is an introduction of advanced swimming strokes.

1. Stingray: breaststroke

2. Dolphin: sidestroke

3. Shark: butterfly
